Brock (11-0) defeats Western (5-6) to advance to CUFLA Final Four.ST. CATHERINES, ONT - The Western Mustangs season ended yesterday as the Brock Badgesr defeated Western 9-4 in CUFLA Quarter-Final playoff action.
Western started the game strong by winning the opening faceoff and creating a few good scoring chances. An early Brock penalty allowed Western to fire off numerous shots, but none found the back of the net.
Brock would open the scoring midway through the quarter. Minutes later, Western tied the game with a great outside blast by attackman Mike Skye (Ohsweken, ON). A late Brock goal would give Brock a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Skye would score again early in the second quarter, off a great feed from LSM Colton Horan (Orangeville, ON) , to tie the game at 2-2. Despite numerous Western scoring chances, Brock would take the lead again halfway through the quarter, but Western's leading scorer Kyle Dorosh (Oakville, ON) would respone with his first goal of the game at the thirteen minute mark to tie the game at 3-3. It looked as if the game would be tied at halftime before Brock's Mike MacLeod (Owen Sound, ON) scored on a great individual effort with less than a minute left in the half. Despite being outshot 20-12, Brock took a 4-3 lead into the halftime break.
Brock continued a regular season trend and dominated the third quarter. Brock outscored Western 3-0 in the quarter and took a commanding 7-3 lead into the fourth quarter. Brock would score another goal early in the fourth quarter to lead 8-3 before defenseman Nikk Trillo (Innisfil, ON) cleared the ball and headed to the net. Trillo made a great feed to Dorosh, who buried his second of the game to give the Mustangs life in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately for the Mustangs and their fans, this game was a litte too far out of reach, and Brock scored a late goal to seal the victory and a trip to Ottawa for the CUFLA Final Four.
